Homenagem a Kukas e encerramento oficial da Bienal: 27 de setembro, 15h–17h
A Jewellery Room reúne galerias de joalharia contemporânea, completando o programa expositivo da Bienal e permitindo ao público ver de perto — e comprar — peças de alguns dos melhores artistas joalheiros da atualidade. Lisboa tem galerias de joalharia contemporânea há mais de trinta anos e um público pequeno, mas fiel e conhecedor, reforçado nos últimos anos pelos muitos estrangeiros que fizeram de Portugal a sua residência permanente. As galerias presentes — portuguesas e internacionais — trazem um conjunto de peças selecionadas em diálogo com os temas da Bienal.
As galerias participantes são convidadas a apresentar um ou mais artistas portugueses, como forma de divulgar a criação nacional. A A-Galerii estreia-se neste evento em 2026; todas as outras galerias participam pela segunda ou mesmo terceira vez.

Fundada e dirigida por artistas, a A-Galerii (fundada em 1994) tornou-se um dos principais centros de joalharia contemporânea e arte em metal da Estónia. Situada na zona histórica da Cidade Velha de Talin, num edifício com mais de um século de história ourives, a galeria faz a ponte entre uma rica herança artesanal e a prática artística contemporânea. Representando mais de cem artistas ligados à joalharia estónia, combina uma programação expositiva de reconhecimento internacional com uma loja especializada que oferece a mais ampla seleção de joalharia de autor estónia.

Fundada em 2015 pela artista, joalheira e curadora Alice Floriano, é a única instituição no Brasil dedicada exclusivamente à joalharia contemporânea como prática artística. Na última década, tem contribuído para expandir a presença deste campo na paisagem cultural brasileira através de exposições, colaborações internacionais e iniciativas educativas, criando novos públicos e coleccionadores. Nos últimos anos, tem voltado a atenção para perspetivas emergentes da América Latina e do Sul Global — não como foco geográfico, mas como forma de expandir as narrativas que hoje moldam a joalharia contemporânea.

Sediada em Antuérpia desde 2000, a Galerie Beyond é especializada em joalharia contemporânea, representando artistas internacionais empenhados em criar joalharia de autor e artefactos únicos que comunicam a sua inspiração, visão ou expressão livre. A galeria convida o visitante a questionar os limites do território tradicionalmente ocupado pela joalharia — muitas das peças selecionadas transgridem a funcionalidade atribuída à joia, ultrapassando o enquadramento habitual do corpo e, por vezes, entrando no habitat de quem a usa.

A Tincal Lab é um atelier e galeria de joalharia contemporânea fundada em 2015 pela joalheira portuguesa Ana Pina, sob o lema de curar e experimentar em joalharia contemporânea. Situada no coração do Distrito das Artes, no Porto, promove ativamente esta área através de workshops com joalheiros convidados e exposições individuais e coletivas de artistas nacionais e internacionais — entre as quais o Tincal Lab Challenge, uma Open Call anual a joalheiros de todo o mundo que resulta numa exposição coletiva temática.

Na sua segunda participação na Bienal de Lisboa, a Vice Versa apresenta três artistas joalheiros consagrados — Catarina Silva (Portugal), Adam Grinovich (Suécia) e Christoph Zellweger (Suíça) —, que revelam aqui as suas criações mais recentes, fruto de reflexões sobre "Coexistência" expressas através da observação, da interrogação e da incerteza. Com mais de 25 anos dedicados à joalharia contemporânea, a galeria organiza anualmente várias exposições temporárias na sua sede em Lausanne, além de manter uma coleção permanente de joalharia de autor de criadores selecionados.

Kukas by Casa Fortunato_ Portugal —kukas.pt
Kukas iniciou o seu trabalho na década de 1960 como pioneira da joalharia de autor e do design de objeto em Portugal. Em 1958 mudou-se para Paris, onde estudou na École Supérieure des Arts Modernes e teve o primeiro contacto com joalharia contemporânea — um encontro que a impressionou pela "simplicidade (...) e pela criatividade absolutamente inovadora para a época". Em 1963, a sua primeira exposição individual na Galeria Diário de Notícias marcou o aparecimento ainda tímido da joalharia de autor em Portugal. Uma retrospetiva no MUDE, em 2012, reuniu mais de 150 peças, e em 2023 apresentou "Kukas – Homenagem à Geometria" no MNAC, com 32 peças criadas entre 2021 e 2023, sublinhando o diálogo entre pintura, arquitetura e joalharia. Kukas faleceu em 2026.

Homenagem a Kukas
27 de setembro, 15h–17h — Claustro, Convento dos Cardaes
No dia 27 de setembro, entre as 15h e as 17h, o Convento dos Cardaes recebe uma homenagem a Kukas, pioneira da joalharia contemporânea e do design de objeto em Portugal, falecida em 2026. A sessão reúne família, colegas artistas, coleccionadores e a comunidade da joalharia para celebrar um percurso que, desde a sua primeira exposição individual em 1963, abriu caminho à joalharia de autor no país — da retrospetiva no MUDE em 2012 a "Kukas – Homenagem à Geometria" no MNAC em 2023. As peças da Kukas by Casa Fortunato permanecem patentes na Jewellery Room durante toda a duração do evento.

Jewellery Room brings together contemporary jewellery galleries, completing the Biennial's exhibition programme and giving the public a chance to see up close — and buy — pieces by some of today's finest jewellery artists. Lisbon has had contemporary jewellery galleries for more than thirty years, and a small but loyal and knowledgeable public, strengthened in recent years by the many foreign residents who have made Portugal their permanent home. The participating galleries — Portuguese and international — bring a selection of pieces in dialogue with the Biennial's themes.
Participating galleries are invited to present one or more Portuguese artists as a way of promoting national practice. A-Galerii joins the event for the first time in 2026; all other galleries return for a second or even third edition.

Founded and run by artists, A-Galerii (est. 1994) has become a leading centre for contemporary jewellery and metal art in Estonia. Located in Tallinn's historic Old Town, in a building with more than a century of goldsmithing history, the gallery bridges a rich craft heritage with contemporary artistic practice. Representing more than one hundred artists connected to the Estonian jewellery field, it combines an internationally recognised exhibition programme with a specialised gallery shop offering the widest selection of contemporary Estonian art jewellery.

Founded in 2015 by artist, jeweller and curator Alice Floriano, the gallery is the only institution in Brazil dedicated exclusively to contemporary jewellery as an artistic practice. Based in Antwerp since 2000, Galerie Beyond specialises in contemporary jewellery, representing international artists committed to creating one-of-a-kind art jewellery and artefacts that communicate their inspiration, vision or free expression. The gallery invites visitors to question the limits of the area traditionally occupied by jewellery — many of the selected works transgress the functionality given to a jewel, moving beyond the existing framework of the body and, at times, into the wearer's habitat.

Tincal Lab is a contemporary jewellery workshop and gallery founded in 2015 by Portuguese jeweller Ana Pina, under the motto of curating and experimenting in contemporary jewellery. Located in the heart of Porto's Art District, it works actively to promote the area through workshops with invited jewellers and individual and collective exhibitions by local and international artists — including the Tincal Lab Challenge, an annual Open Call to jewellers worldwide resulting in a collective thematic exhibition.

For its second participation at the Lisbon Biennial, Vice Versa Gallery presents three renowned jewellery artists — Catarina Silva (Portugal), Adam Grinovich (Sweden) and Christoph Zellweger (Switzerland) — who reveal their latest creations at the event, their reflections on "Coexistence" expressed through observation, question and uncertainty. With over 25 years dedicated to contemporary jewellery, the gallery hosts several temporary exhibitions each year at its Lausanne location, alongside a permanent collection of art jewellery by selected creators.

Kukas established her work in the 1960s as a pioneer of contemporary jewellery and object design in Portugal. In 1958 she moved to Paris, studying at the École Supérieure des Arts Modernes and encountering contemporary jewellery for the first time — work that impressed her through its "simplicity, and its absolutely innovative creativity at the time." In 1963, her first solo exhibition at Galeria Diário de Notícias marked the timid emergence of author jewellery in Portugal. A retrospective at MUDE in 2012 brought together more than 150 pieces, and in 2023 she held "Kukas – Homenagem à Geometria" at MNAC, featuring 32 pieces made between 2021 and 2023 and highlighting the dialogue between painting, architecture and jewellery. Kukas passed away in 2026.

Tribute to Kukas
27 September, 3–5pm — Cloister, Convento dos Cardaes
On 27 September, between 3pm and 5pm, the Convento dos Cardaes hosts a tribute to Kukas, pioneer of contemporary jewellery and object design in Portugal, who passed away in 2026. The session brings together family, fellow artists, collectors and the wider jewellery community to celebrate a body of work that, since her first solo exhibition in 1963, opened the way for author jewellery in the country — from her 2012 retrospective at MUDE to "Kukas – Homenagem à Geometria" at MNAC in 2023. Pieces from Kukas by Casa Fortunato remain on view in the Jewellery Room for the full duration of the event.
